  • Firestone Walker Brewing Company and Duvel Moortgat USA signed a definitive agreement with Stone Brewing to acquire its brand and select hospitality locations, including the Liberty Station venue in San Diego, while production shifts to Firestone Walker’s brewery in Paso Robles; the acquisition is expected to close in Q2.  Paso Robles Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Templeton Library will host author Karesha McGee for a talk and book signing of her new book, The Family Healthcare Playbook — which draws on her caregiving and global communications experience — on April 30, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The free event will let community members learn practical tips.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The City of Atascadero will host its 10th annual Tamale Festival at Sunken Gardens and downtown on May 1 and May 2. Fiesta Friday begins May 1 with tamale vendors and live music plus the main event on May 2 will feature contests, performances, and family activities.  Paso Robles Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in the county jumped 11 cents last week to $6.08 per gallon due to instability in the Middle East (according to AAA). GasBuddy data lists the cheapest prices at stations in Arroyo Grande, Nipomo, Paso Robles, and Pismo Beach.  CalCoast News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Archie, a 2-year-old cat surrendered due to a family’s allergy, is Pet of the Week and now available for adoption through North County Paws Cause. He had adjustment issues in foster care but has returned to his social and playful nature, ready to bring joy to a new home.  Paso Robles Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cal Poly Softball was swept by University of Hawai‘i in a three-game series that extended its losing streak to 11 games. The team will host UC Davis at Bob Janssen Field on May 1 as it looks to reverse the trend.  Mustang News
  • Cal Poly Baseball beat CSU Northridge 5-4 on Saturday (rain delays threatened play) as Jake Downing hit a key home run and Nick Bonn recorded his 10th save. The win marked the team’s second straight victory in a tightly contested series.  Mustang News
  • Cal Poly Baseball defeated CSUN 8-5 Friday as Gavin Spiridonoff hit a go-ahead RBI triple and went 3-for-4 at first base (with three RBI), helping the Mustangs keep a three-way tie at the top of the conference.  Mustang News
