- ➤ The seventh annual Turkey Trot, a 5K run and walk open to all ages, will take place on Thanksgiving morning at Atascadero Lake Park – check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. and the run begins at 9 a.m. with proceeds supporting the local El Camino Homeless Organization and matching funds from the B Loved Foundation. - ➤ A sheriff’s deputy and local residents rescued a 16-year-old dog named Jagger on Monday at Lake Nacimiento after building a makeshift bridge to free him from the mud while coyotes circled nearby—Jagger was later cleaned, given treats and reunited with his family. Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cal Poly plans an alternative St. Fratty’s event with ASI and the InterFraternity Council early in the morning on Saturday, March 14 to reduce student disturbance and respond to city council concerns over event space. The university noted that last year’s changes led to 75% fewer citations — along with 76% fewer conduct cases and 60% fewer medical transports — and it will work with law enforcement and community partners to safely accommodate more students this year. - ➤ CalFresh benefits will be partially distributed in November because a government shutdown and funding issues forced the administration to use $4.65 billion from a contingency fund—this means that approved households will not receive full SNAP benefits. The administration said it is following a court order, but critics warn that many students and low-income families may soon face extra hardship. Mustang News

- ➤ Cal Poly wrestlers won four bouts while losing 19 to 13 to Purdue at the Mott Athletics Center on Saturday, as Zeth Romney—who moved up to 141 pounds and won a 6 to 5 overtime match, his first in three years at that weight—helped set the tone for the season. Head Coach Jon Sioredas said the match was meant to test the team, and Cal Poly will host Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in their first conference match. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly Women’s Basketball won its regular season opener against UC Santa Cruz by 87–27 with Vanessa McManus scoring 24 points and Nora Perez scoring a career high with 14 points – the team will face Stanford at Maples Pavilion on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. Mustang News
- ➤ The Paso Robles Youth Wrestling Club will host its 20th annual Turkeymania on Nov. 15 in Paso Robles, featuring a 10K race, 5K race, and family fun run. Registration opens at 7 a.m.—first 100 participants will receive a limited-edition T-shirt, and all proceeds will benefit Paso Robles High School Wrestling. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Pacific Gas + Electric donated and installed two 80-foot wood poles at Cal Poly to support its co-ed Logging Team as it prepares for the collegiate timber sports competition in spring. The poles will help the team host the Association of Western Forestry Clubs Conclave that is expected to draw over 200 competitors from 10 universities. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Cal Poly Women’s Soccer earned six All-Big West awards this season as defender Brennan Cole and forward Annika Smith were named Defensive and Offensive Player of the Year — they will face Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Nov. 6 at Spanos Stadium as the Mustangs chase a conference title.
