- ➤ Arroyo Grande High School’s Friday Night Live club hosted its Fall Blood Drive on Thursday and club advisor Brandon Sligh said the event is one of the largest on the Central Coast. Vitalant is holding blood drives today at Paso Robles High School from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and at WorldMark Solvang from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to boost donations during the fall and winter months. KSBY-TV
- ➤ Lawmakers continued the month-long shutdown that could cost the economy billions and prompted warnings of scams after Hurricane Melissa, while SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 at 1:06 p.m. carrying 28 Starlink satellites and a Morro Bay food coalition increased supplies as SNAP benefits were suspended. In the Santa Ynez Valley, wildfire insurance premiums spiked, prompting local fire-station plans, and San Luis Obispo will host its annual Pumpkin Smash at French Park on Saturday—unpainted pumpkins will be smashed and composted to divert waste.
