COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Thanksgiving for Paso Robles will host its 41st annual community Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 27th at Centennial Park to serve more than 1,500 free meals from noon to 2 p.m. The event is funded entirely by community donations and planned by volunteers, and it will offer to-go meals from 3 p.m. with home delivery for those who are homebound while needing over 250 volunteers from Nov. 24th to Nov. 27th. - ➤ Zoe Rosenberg, a San Luis Obispo animal rights activist, was on trial for taking four chickens from a Perdue Farms plant as she claimed she rescued them from abuse—prosecutors said she broke the law by entering without permission. KSBY-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ ASI Events will bring viral comedian Connor Wood to Cal Poly's Chumash Auditorium on Nov. 4 for a free student show that will feature a comedy set and Q&A session. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and students can register from Oct. 30 at 10 a.m.—tickets will require a valid PolyCard and government-issued ID. Mustang News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firestone Walker Brewing Company unveiled a new CO2 recovery system that will save four million pounds of emissions annually—this system recycles carbon dioxide from fermentation for use in operations, supporting the Brewing for Tomorrow sustainability initiative. The company built a $1 million structure for the $1.8 million system designed by Pentair. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ A local contractor began emergency repairs on the end of Cayucos Pier on October 28th after storm damage (from a hit in February and high surf in December) and the work will last four weeks with public access allowed after 11 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. The project is funded by county insurance and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency). CalCoast News
- ➤ The City of Paso Robles will activate the new traffic signal at Creston Road and Bolen/Walnut during the week of Oct 27 after a delay in the arrival of signal control boxes—crews will pave the westbound lanes between Orchard Drive and Trigo Lane on Friday, Oct 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to replace substandard asphalt. - ➤ Paso Sherpa announced on Oct. 27 that it will donate $2 from each Paso Gear item sold during November to support El Camino Homeless Organization—helping families secure shelter, meals, and other crucial resources. - ➤ Cal Poly Women’s Soccer did not clinch the Big West title after a 1-1 draw with Cal State Northridge on Oct. 26, leaving their season in the hands of other teams. The Mustangs will await the final conference matches on Oct. 30—if the opposing teams fail to post the needed results, the title decision will be set then. Mustang News
- ➤ At Twin Rivers Ranch, O'Malley Van Het Pannehof Z won the 5-year-old championship with the highest overall score while Earned Effort took the 4-year-old title under the guidance of Anna Collier. Nick Cwick and Collier led a strong field of young horses from varied backgrounds in a contest that shows the growth of the USEA Young Event Horse program—highlighting both imported and homebred talent. - ➤ Cal Poly’s women's soccer team clinched a playoff spot as Ashley Brewer scored a game-winning goal in the 85th-minute win over UC Riverside at Spanos Stadium, placing them first in the Big West standings. The team will rest before starting the championship kickoff on Nov. 2. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly Football lost 34 to 17 to No. 5 Montana State on Saturday night at home—marking their seventh loss to the Bobcats. The team struggled on both offense and defense and will try to bounce back against Portland State on Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. Mustang News
