COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ At a public meeting Wednesday morning at the Atascadero City Council Chambers, community leaders and volunteers updated residents on the renovation of the historic Printery Building, which was designed in 1913 (by EG Lewis and Associates) and once housed the largest printing operation west of the Mississippi. A Gala fundraiser is planned for Nov. 9 to raise money for shoring up the structure and preparing it to reopen, with tickets priced at $110 (marking its 110th birthday). Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Construction is underway on Santa Maria Sports Park with $15M funding to add four multi-purpose fields, lighting, restrooms, and event space, and first responders in Arroyo Grande were honored for their efforts fighting the Gifford Fire. The San Luis Coastal Unified School District plans to sell the old Morro Elementary School site for community reuse while Cal Poly begins its modular housing project that will add 520 beds by fall — a key step to ease student housing demand. - ➤ Local organizers are hosting a series of spooky events this weekend—today’s offerings include Grover Beach Trunk or Treat at Ramona Garden Park and Boo Bash at Meadow Park, while Saturday and Sunday will feature a paddle event in Morro Bay, a costume dance party at a Santa Barbara venue, an Old Town Trick or Treat in Lompoc, a Walk for Cancer at Santa Margarita Ranch, and ongoing attractions in Atascadero and Solvang offer haunted house experiences and a pumpkin patch for fall fun. - ➤ Sal Vulcano — known from Impractical Jokers — performed for a sold-out college audience at the Performing Arts Center on October 21 and entertained students with self-deprecating humor about his viral ‘fat head’ meme while engaging with crowd stories. Mustang News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Student test scores in San Luis Obispo County increased during the 2024-2025 school year as 54.2% of students met English standards and 40.75% met math standards—both above state averages—yet the scores still lagged behind pre-pandemic levels. CalCoast News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Travelers on Highway 1 saw clouds of smoke rise yesterday as California State Parks conducted a prescribed burn at Estero Bluffs State Park. The burn started at 9:30 a.m. and will finish at 2 p.m.—officials advised caution near areas with possible road and trail closures while traffic remained normal. KSBY

- ➤ Freshman Charlotte Kelly stepped in as starting middle blocker for Cal Poly after teammate Breklyn Pulling was injured (she has logged 63 kills and 48 blocks this season). Coach Caroline Walters set her up for success (the team remains unbeaten at home in Big West play). Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly Women’s Soccer beat UC Irvine 2-1 on Oct. 19 — the win moved them to second place in the Big West Conference — and raised their chances for postseason play.
