- ➤ At least three local babies are competing in the Baby of the Year contest hosted by Variety Magazine in partnership with Baby2Baby, with the winner set to receive $25,000 and a magazine advertorial. Voting is open until Thursday at 7 p.m.—families from Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, and Atascadero are supporting Bella, Gabrianna, and Saylor. KSBY
- ➤ Restorative Partners unveiled a new office and expanded services on Tuesday with a space on Prado Road that helps formerly incarcerated individuals begin rebuilding their lives—six new positions and a state grant renewal worth over $4.4 million will help more clients secure transitional and permanent housing. - ➤ Authorities are searching for 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard from Vandenberg Village after her grandmother said she only learned of the disappearance when officials called. Downtown business owners say high rents and parking challenges have hurt local storefronts while a ranch in Arroyo Grande will host an event — with pony rides and raffles — to thank first responders for their work during the Gifford Fire. - ➤ Scouting America Troops 60 and 1602 held their annual open house at the Paso Robles Scout Hut at the corner of 23rd and Oak streets, inviting boys and girls ages 11 to 17 to learn about camping, hiking, and community volunteering, and six new scouts joined the program. - ➤ Front Porch, a free coffee shop near Cal Poly campus, finished a summer renovation and reopened on Sept 22 to serve more students. The new design features green-painted walls — including a gallery wall and reconfigured upstairs seating to better meet the growing demand. Mustang News

- ➤ Applause Children’s Theater will mark the 60th anniversary of The Sound of Music with three performances (Nov. 14th at 7 p.m. and Nov. 15th at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.) at the Christian Life Center in Paso Robles. The production features 30 youth performers and includes classic songs like Do-Re-Mi and Edelweiss (children age 3 and under attend free on a lap). Paso Robles Daily News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cal Poly students conducted a prescribed burn at Escuela Ranch on October 13 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.—the first student-led burn at the university, carried out by NR 470 seniors with support from California State Parks, CAL FIRE, and the U.S. Forest Service. They burned 26 acres to learn techniques for wildfire prevention and ecosystem restoration. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly will host its annual fall career fair today and allow U.S. Customs and Border Protection to recruit at the event. Student and faculty groups have organized petitions and protests in response—arguing that the agency’s presence contradicts the school’s commitment to a welcoming environment. Mustang News

- ➤ Cal Poly will host the Pac-12 Wrestling Championships at Mott Athletics Center for the first time in 21 years this March—four teams including Little Rock, Oregon State and Cal State Bakersfield will compete in the local event. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly Volleyball swept UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton on the weekend to extend their home winning streak to 15 games and move their record to 15-5—standout players Kendall Beshear and Aveya Stone led the wins.
