EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly will open a new on-campus farm store in 2027 after Driscoll’s pledged $5 million to boost agriculture learning—construction will start in 2026 as part of the Plant Sciences Complex at Highland Avenue and Mt. Bishop Road.  Mustang News
  • Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has created a year-round Transportation and Facilities Support Technician role that combines bus driving with school grounds care — the job offers free training for a Class B license and a $2,000 sign-on bonus. The full-time position also provides paid vacation, sick leave and holidays — making it a strong option for local applicants.  Paso Robles Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Baroness Bryony Worthington, a member of the U.K. House of Lords, visited Cal Poly on Oct. 8 for the Noyce School of Applied Computing’s Distinguished Speaker Series—she shared her work on drafting the U.K.’s landmark Climate Change Act. She also discussed clean energy strategies in China and praised Cal Poly’s practical teaching—urging students to stay active in government.  Mustang News

  • California will be the first state to require restaurants with 20 or more locations to list allergens like milk, eggs, shellfish, and tree nuts on menus starting in 2026—Gov. Newsom signed the law to protect Californians with food allergies while the restaurant association warns it may raise costs.  KSBY
