- ➤ Melvin Perez Jr. from Paso Robles will co-lead the Order of the Eastern Star’s 151st session at the Visalia Convention Center from Oct. 15 through Oct. 18 — he will work with Alice Raymond in public sessions that include a leadership installation on Saturday when new Grand Officers are set to be installed. - ➤ On Oct. 6, ECHO broke ground on the new Balay Ko Family Resource Center in Atascadero to add 30 shelter beds and essential spaces for education and counseling. The two-story, 7,200-square-foot building will be completed by October 2026 and is part of a $6 million capital campaign that has raised over half its goal—aimed at relieving more than 300 families on the waitlist. - ➤ Local dairy farmers and producers are invited to apply for grants from the Pacific Coast Coalition—Dairy Business Innovation Initiative, which offers funding between $155,550 and $500,550 for projects that diversify dairy markets. Applications are accepted through Oct 31, proposals will be reviewed in November, and work is set to start Dec 1 with all spending completed by July 31. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ Microsurface paving will occur in San Luis Obispo County from October to November, affecting communities including Nipomo, Oceano, Los Ranchos/Edna, Palo Mesa, Rural Arroyo Grande, Pozo, and Rural San Miguel — crews will enforce one-way traffic control and flagging while notifying residents 72 hours ahead with door hangers and restricting driveway access during curing. - ➤ Updated COVID-19 vaccines are now available at pharmacies as well as Public Health clinics in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles for everyone aged six months and older. - ➤ SabesWings hosted its fifth annual 'Strike Out' event on Oct. 4 and 5 in Paso Robles to raise over $1 million to help cancer patients with medical and household expenses. Founded by former MVP Bret Saberhagen and his wife Kandace, the event featured wine tastings, a gala dinner, casino games, and a golf tournament — with special guests from sports and food shows. - ➤ Cal Poly Men's Soccer lost 2—0 at home to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, ending a 13-match unbeaten streak that began on Oct. 15. The defeat dropped the Mustangs to a tie for fourth in the Big West conference and coach Oige Kennedy said the team will work hard to bounce back. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly punted the ball on a key fourth down when trailing UC Davis, and Coach Paul Wulff said the team punted to avoid giving UC Davis a better chance to score. The decision kept the Mustangs from reclaiming the Golden Horseshoe trophy—raising questions about the coaching call. Mustang News
- ➤ Kiley Bowman—a junior who leads her team in kills and digs—and Joseph Arce, an 11th-grade runner known for his strong training and solid grades, were named Bearcat Athletes of the Week. Their achievements highlight key performances in sports and academics for the season. Paso Robles Daily News
