BUSINESS NEWS

  • San Luis Obispo-based Meathead Movers settled a federal age discrimination lawsuit by agreeing to pay up to $6 million yesterday—allocating $4 million for a hiring fund over four years and $2 million for monetary relief—while the settlement requires the company to appoint a monitor to ensure compliance with the law.  CalCoast News

  • The Central Coast Weavers Guild will hold its 18th Annual Sale and Guild Showcase from Nov. 7 to Nov. 9 at The Strawbale Barn Weaving Studio in Atascadero — the event will begin on Nov. 7 with a reception from 1 to 6 p.m. and will include displays of handwoven clothing, household items and live demonstrations of weaving and spinning throughout the weekend.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Studios on the Park will host a free pumpkin sculpting demo led by artist Jordan Hockett on Oct. 11 from noon to 5 p.m. in the Atrium Gallery—attendees will see Hockett create three-dimensional designs from pumpkins.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport resumes daily nonstop flights to Las Vegas today with Alaska Airlines—offering local travelers a direct route for leisure and business while boosting regional connectivity and the economy.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Cal Poly Campus Dining has introduced new options for fall quarter including a second Julian’s Cafe in Kennedy Library, a new Hilltop Grocery for second-year students, and dedicated gluten-free dining areas — changes that will offer more flexible meal choices. Some students remain concerned with higher prices — a challenge for balancing quality and affordability.  Mustang News
  • AT&T joined Cal Poly’s 5G Innovation Lab to expand wireless coverage in Poly Canyon and help students, faculty, and visitors get better connections for cloud-based applications. Certification finished Aug. 5—making it one of the first two-carrier neutral host networks in the country.  Mustang News
  • Dream Big Darling opened applications on Oct. 2nd for the 2026 Flourish Program, a six-month free career development program for women that runs from January through June and offers one-on-one coaching + group mentoring. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents near the South St. and King Ct. crosswalk say it feels unsafe, and the City of San Luis Obispo is voting Tuesday night on a plan to install pedestrian hybrid beacons to improve safety + the new system—with signals that flash yellow and red—is expected to be operational by fall. The pilot project aims to reduce risks for pedestrians and cyclists at a busy intersection.  KSBY-TV

  • The Cancer Support Community—California Central Coast will hold its fourth annual Walk for Cancer on October 26 at 9 a.m. at Ancient Peaks Barn in Santa Margarita. Participants will follow a two-mile course through Santa Margarita Ranch and enjoy live music, food from local trucks, and a complimentary glass of wine while $25 tickets support free programs for cancer patients and their families.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Cal Poly Football will host UC Davis in the 51st Battle for the Golden Horseshoe today at 5 p.m. at Mustang Memorial Field+ both teams aim to hand the other its first conference loss this season.  Mustang News
  • Cal Poly Women’s Soccer extended its unbeaten home streak to six games after a 2-2 tie with Cal State Bakersfield—setting a season record of eight draws. The Mustangs will face the University of Hawaii Manoa on Oct. 9 at 9 p.m.—seeking to add points to their record.  Mustang News
  • Delaney Lloyd—a junior and co-captain for THS Girls Golf—was named Athlete of the Week after she scored 52 at today's mini-tournament in Morro Bay against five teams. This marks her third year on the team.  Paso Robles Daily News
