COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A DIY ReMaker Space opened Tuesday at the San Luis Obispo ReStore, offering a fully equipped workshop for restoring furniture and learning skills using hand- and power tools—Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County runs the facility, which hosts free workshops, volunteer-led open hours, and accepts tool donations and monetary support.  KSBY-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce visited Madison, Wisconsin in late August to learn new ways to attract young professionals. Chamber officials said they will put new plans in place later in 2026 to boost local housing and strengthen ties—ideas from their vision trip.  KSBY-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Superintendent Jennifer Loftus will host a community coffee meeting on October 3 at 8 a.m. in the district boardroom (800 Niblick Road) to welcome local residents in discussions about district partnerships.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The Paso Robles City Library will host a free Windows 11 workshop on October 8 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.—learners will be taught how to use the Start menu, manage files, and adjust settings for everyday tasks.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Luis Obispo residents will face a government shutdown that begins at 9 p.m. PDT Wednesday as disagreements in Congress over a short-term funding deal may affect 600 federal workers and community services—departments like Health and Transportation may halt operations while Education continues.  Mustang News
  • Caltrans is nearing completion on the Cholame Creek Bridges as part of the Highway 46 East widening project near Cholame—traffic will switch in spring when the bridges open for travelers. Atkinson Construction of Irvine is managing the $148 million project that will finish in summer and connect to the new Highway 46 East/State Route 41 interchange.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The City of Paso Robles will upgrade City Hall this fall to improve public service delivery—staff will start moving in early October with most relocated by the week of Oct.27, public service counters for Community Development and Utilities will move to the library conference room on Nov.3, and on-site work will begin the week of Nov.17. City meetings will continue at alternate venues and services will not be interrupted until staff return in January and work in the Council Chamber finishes by late April.  Paso Robles Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Flu vaccine clinics have begun across San Luis Obispo County, offering free shots for uninsured residents and vaccinations at local pharmacies and county clinics, with pop-up events running from today through Nov. 5—County Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said the vaccines help prevent severe illness and keep hospitals ready for emergencies; residents may call 805-781-5500 to schedule an appointment.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Campus Health & Wellbeing has expanded its Health Center hours today by setting in-person appointments until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and phone visits from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sundays, though the union representing health providers warns that the absence of pharmacy, x-ray & lab services during these times and the shifting of regular staff may limit overall care for students.  Mustang News
