COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services will host its 4th annual open house on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fire Station 3 at 2924 Union Road—residents will be able to tour the station, watch live demonstrations, and enjoy a free hot dog barbecue.  Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly is using robots from Daxbot — an Oregon-based company — to map over 31 miles of campus paths for its ADA Transition Plan until Oct. 17. Facilities Management and Development will post the updated accessibility map online once the robots finish their work.  Mustang News

FINANCE NEWS

  • California cannabis sales generated $259.7 million in tax revenue for the second quarter of 2025—this includes $147.3 million from excise tax and $112.4 million from sales tax. Since 2018, cannabis sales have generated over $7.3 billion, though the figures did not include unprocessed returns.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • The Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation will host its annual fundraiser on Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. at The White Barn—217 Green Gate Road in San Luis Obispo, where a ‘Heroes vs. Villains’ theme invites guests in costume to enjoy auctions, dinner, and dancing to benefit local law enforcement programs.  Paso Robles Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cal Poly announced that Carter Henderson is its new athletic director after Don Oberhelman retired after 15 years. Henderson, who worked as a deputy at Stanford, will start on October 13th and said he will balance sports with academics and community support — a move to guide the program through changes in college sports.  Mustang News
  • Senior Gabi Barroso earned recognition as Eagle Athlete of the Week after posting 14 kills and 7 blocks this week at Templeton High School. Coach Shilo Russell praised her skill and dedication—saying she motivates teammates and shows a deep love for the game.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Cal Poly athletic director Don Oberhelman donated $250,000 with his wife to the John Madden Football Center before his retirement, officials said — the donation will help complete the nearly finished $45 million project that is set to finish by the end of 2025.  Mustang News
  • At Bearcat sports, Corrine McWilliams, a senior in volleyball, and Dayanie Jimenez-Aguilar in flag football were named Athletes of the Week for their hard work and clear improvements. Corrine has grown as a strong middle blocker while Dayanie always asks for help to get better—both athletes show great dedication.  Paso Robles Daily News
