  • Must! Charities announced that applications are open for the second cohort of its Leadership Alliance Program, which runs until October 16 and will begin meeting on December 4 to boost local nonprofit growth—strengthening community leadership.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Today on the Central Coast, Paso Robles food truck vendors met at City Hall to talk about new rules while PG&E will hold a Diablo Canyon meeting tonight — online and in person — and the Chumash Charity Golf Classic teed off in Solvang to raise funds. In another story, authorities said an alleged break-in in Arroyo Grande left Cynthia Giambalvo dead and Joseph hurt; Caltrans says Highway 1 at Regent’s Slide should reopen in March and more than 90 volunteers took part in a disaster drill at Santa Barbara Airport.  KSBY

  • A Morro Bay woman with disabilities reported that thieves stole the specialized harness her service dog uses for mobility and balance—she is raising funds to replace it after police and harbor patrol could not recover the item.  Paso Robles Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, screenwriter Rob Edwards hosts a reception and screening of The Princess and the Frog at Palm Theatre with doors opening at 5 p.m. The film starts at 6 p.m.—the event, presented with Cuesta College Central Coast Writers’ Conference, will include an interview and discussion session while tickets cost $12 for general admission and $10 for seniors and children.  Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly first-year students must use alternative transportation to get around campus and San Luis Obispo since they cannot bring cars and parking permits are limited—this encourages rides with upperclassmen, Zipcar rentals, and free city bus options with a PolyCard.   • Cal Poly Dining replaced Poly Deli with Poly Choice at 1901 Marketplace—this new venue serves build-your-own poke bowls and grab-and-go items and is open Monday to Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. with reduced hours on Friday, and weekend service may be added if demand increases.  Mustang News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A storm produced a bright lightning display and heavy rain with over half an inch falling in parts of San Luis Obispo County—power outages affected more than 3,000 PG&E customers, including 2,586 near Lake Nacimiento where power was expected to return early the next morning.  CalCoast News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 24, Councilman Chris Bausch’s attorney sent a cease and desist letter to city officials in Paso Robles over false claims in a case management statement— the letter demands an immediate withdrawal and correction to align with a settlement agreement showing he acted in good faith.  CalCoast News
