  • Woods Humane Society will host its fifth annual Wiggle Waggle Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at its San Luis Obispo campus at 875 Oklahoma Ave—offering half-off adoptions for dogs and cats. Sponsored by Subaru Loves Pets, the free event will feature pet contests, trick-for-treat challenges, and local food vendors — and it will celebrate the society’s 70th Anniversary with a record of over 3,000 pet adoptions last fiscal year.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The Fourth Annual Fundraiser benefiting From the Heart Animal Sanctuary will take place Saturday, Sept. 27 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at The Iron Jungle parking lot (580 Linne Road) where visitors will enjoy free admission, a raffle, silent auction, animal appearances, live music by The Industry and food from local vendors.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Cal Poly has named Al Liddicoat as its new provost and executive vice president of Academic Affairs — his appointment was announced by President Armstrong at Fall Convocation. Liddicoat has served at Cal Poly since 2002 and will work with deans and staff to improve academic programs.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Templeton High School sophomore Nya Minter has quickly made her mark on the varsity tennis team by playing at the No.2 spot; she earned a top-three finish in the CIF tournament as a freshman (she continues to focus on growing her skills).  Paso Robles Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Defenders of Wildlife and partners will host Sea Otter Awareness Week starting today in Morro Bay — the campaign’s theme Anchored in Hope highlights sea otters’ role in keeping coastal ecosystems healthy. Visitors can watch sea otters at Morro Rock from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily and join a special presentation at the Morro Bay Museum of Natural History on Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. — the event will explain local research and conservation efforts.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Following a public records lawsuit that led to a $277,000 settlement, Mayor Hamon, City Attorney Hull, and the Tribune blamed Councilman Chris Bausch for delays in turning over records—Bausch said he followed legal advice amid disputes with former City Manager Ty Lewis. The debate continues as officials insist that his decisions cost taxpayers while Bausch defends his actions.  CalCoast News
