COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Atascadero and the Central Coast Zoo will host the 12th annual Brew at the Zoo on Sept. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. to fund the zoo’s education and conservation programs and will feature local breweries, wineries and distilleries along with live entertainment, food vendors and games — tickets are $40 online, $15 for designated drivers and $50 at the gate.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Paso Robles Recreation Services continues its Parent and Me cooking series at Centennial Kitchen this fall—today instructor Eva Marie Downs leads a Mexican cuisine class for youth 7 through 17 with an accompanying adult where participants prepare dishes like rice, refried beans, tacos, tortillas and fresh salsa, and additional sessions including beginner baking and Asian take out are scheduled later this fall.  Paso Robles Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • A 56-year-old woman allegedly set a fire at her estranged husband's home in Paso Robles on August 5 while he was inside, and police arrested her on Monday for attempted murder, arson, vandalism, and violating her restraining order — she remains in jail without bail and her arraignment is set for today.  CalCoast News
  • A 27 year old Paso Robles man was arrested early Monday for allegedly shooting a victim near 34th Street — Spring Street on Saturday; investigators found a 9mm casing and recovered an unregistered AR 15 style rifle near where he was detained, and he now faces an attempted murder charge.  CalCoast News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Paso Robles Art Association opened its Mixed Up exhibit at Studios on the Park on Aug. 30 with an awards reception — it displays sculptures, photography, paintings and mixed media pieces and will run through Oct. 29.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The Rhone Rangers are hosting International Grenache Day at Cass Winery in Paso Robles on Sept. 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.—tickets cost $45 in advance and $55 at the door. Guests will taste Grenache Blanc, Grenache Rosé, Grenache Noir and GSM wines and enjoy cheese, charcuterie and music by DJ Gestalt and Subtone.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Aug 28, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office began its Citizen Academy with a jail tour led by Sheriff Ian Parkinson, Undersheriff Tim Nicholson and Captain Landgraf. Participants received a behind-the-scenes look at jail operations from Sergeant Willey and the Classification Unit — the academy will continue with more tours in the coming weeks.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Today, about 1,600 Paso Robles customers remain without power after Monday evening outages left over 2,000 customers without electricity, and San Luis Obispo now uses PayByPhone for parking while a new downtown structure is set to open in February to add nearly 400 parking spaces, EV chargers, bike racks, and a rooftop event space with drivers facing long backups at the Highway 101 exit near Avila Beach. Health officials warn recreational fishers not to eat locally caught bivalve shellfish because dangerous toxins can cause paralytic shellfish poisoning — protest rallies were also held over Labor Day across the Central Coast.  KSBY-TV
  • Atascadero motorists will face delays beginning Sept. 8 as Souza Construction starts the Santa Lucia Road West Pavement Rehabilitation Project to rebuild 1.75 centerline miles from Portola Road to Laurel Road. Pre-construction work will continue through Sept. 5 and drivers are advised to expect delays up to 15 minutes—officials request caution in the area.  Paso Robles Daily News
