ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Gifford Fire in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties was 95% contained after burning 131,614 acres, destroying five structures and injuring 15 people—12 firefighters and three civilians. CalCoast News
- ➤ A barn fire broke out in Creston off Ryan Road on August 23 at 3:17 p.m.—fire crews put out the blaze by 4:30 p.m. and one person sustained a minor injury while the cause remains under investigation. KSBY-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The San Luis Obispo County Department of Airports invites students from kindergarten through 12th grade to submit original drawings or paintings that show aviation’s connection to the area for the Wings Over SLO CAL 2026 contest—entries must be postmarked by Oct. 20 and in-person submissions will be accepted at the Oceano Airport event on Sept. 20.
