  • The Must! Charities Youth Board with 31 high school students raised over $9,340 for local youth programs last school year in San Luis Obispo County. The board ran a Peer to Peer donation drive—supported by a $2,500 matching gift from JB Dewar—to fund mentoring, arts education and after-school programs.  Paso Robles Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Solarponics, founded in 1975 and celebrating its 50th anniversary this month, began in San Luis Obispo installing solar thermal water heating systems and now designs solar electric, HVAC, and backup systems for residential and commercial projects. The company’s work has saved over $500 million and cut carbon emissions by 250,000 metric tons annually (the equivalent of planting 60 million trees) while helping the county reach a 32% solar saturation rate (compared to a national average of 7%).  Paso Robles Daily News

  • The San Luis Obispo Police Department is asking for help identifying a suspect in a theft at the Madonna Inn boutique on Aug. 4; anyone with information should call Officer LaDow at (805) 594-8053 or Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-7867 and reference case number 250804093.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The Paso Robles Police Department has issued a Silver Alert for 86-year-old David Peterson—he was last seen Aug 4 on the 2800 block of Wedgewood Court in Paso Robles and is described as a white male 5 ft 9 in tall, weighing 160 lbs with gray hair and brown eyes, wearing a black quilted jacket and green and black camouflage cargo shorts and believed to be driving a white 2014 Honda Ridgeline with California license plate 99438D1.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • SLO County law enforcement seized over 600 pounds of illegal fireworks from July 3 to July 6 after a new ordinance was adopted on May 20—sheriff deputies issued 24 violation notices while Cal Fire contacted 100 individuals.  CalCoast News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, firefighters near the Gifford fire are tackling dangerous conditions — gusts dropped to about 20 mph and a slight easing was noted for firefighting efforts. Tonight, winds will calm to below 10 mph before picking up again in the evening, so fire weather risks will continue into the weekend.  KSBY-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Paso Robles Police Department swore in Officer Kyle Wheeler and appointed its first deputy chief, Caleb Davis, during its monthly Oaths of Office ceremony. Wheeler, who graduated from the Allan Hancock Police Academy on June 11 and is now undergoing field training, will work under Chief Nord—while Davis, a commander since 2018 who has led the Administration Bureau and special projects, will serve as second-in-command.  Paso Robles Daily News
