- ➤ The SLO Food Bank and the Department of Social Services will offer free CalFresh application help at the Atascadero Library on Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m.—community members may receive one-on-one help with their applications and pick up free food at the Neighborhood Food Distribution from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ One person was injured when a vegetation fire broke out east of Lopez Lake on Wednesday morning—San Luis Obispo County Fire Department units responded around 10:30 a.m. on Hi Mountain Road, stopping the blaze that burned 2.5 acres and remaining at the scene for two hours. KSBY-TV
- ➤ Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire that broke out near the intersection of Highway 101 & State Route 58 just west of Santa Margarita on Wednesday morning at about 9:40 a.m. The San Luis Obispo County Fire Department sent fire engines and water tenders to the scene. KSBY-TV

- ➤ Riboli Family Wines has named Chef Justin Lewis as director of food services to run food programs at its tasting room, restaurants and winery events—overseeing locations in Los Angeles and Paso Robles. He will plan a new seasonal menu with fresh local ingredients and develop projects like the restaurant at San Simeon Estate Winery using his experience at local hotel groups and a brewery. - ➤ Bradley and Wilder Simmons will launch Paso Picture Show on August 16 at Bianchi Winery & Tasting Room in Paso Robles — an outdoor cinema series that pairs classic films with winery settings and offers pre-show activities, seating options and tickets with wine and kettle corn. - ➤ Smoke from the Gifford Fire affected air quality in San Luis Obispo County yesterday with conditions ranging from moderate to unhealthy—residents were advised to limit exposure while the Varian Equestrian Center sheltered eight horses displaced by the fire. Firefighters in downtown San Luis Obispo began a live fire training exercise that will run for the next two weeks to sharpen their tactics in real conditions. KSBY
- ➤ Today, smoke from the Gifford Fire is drifting over San Luis Obispo County—air quality is expected to reach moderate to unhealthy levels in areas like the 5 Cities, Nipomo, California Valley, Carrizo Plain and Coyote Valley. - ➤ The city council approved a plan to redevelop a commercial building at 2508 Spring St into a mixed-use facility with a deli, market, beer and wine tasting kiosks, and a private meeting space—changing the zoning to allow these uses despite one dissenting vote. They also formed a two-member ad hoc committee to review food truck permit rules after recent code updates caused enforcement issues, with public input sessions to be scheduled.
