  • Habitat for Humanity SLO will host the Home Sweet Home brunch to raise funds for affordable housing and support local seniors with updated program details on Oct. 25 at Lone Madrone Winery in Templeton. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At about 4:55 p.m. Saturday, a barn at 8620 San Carlos in Atascadero burned 9 acres of vegetation and killed four horses—nearby weed abatement and a coordinated response from local and regional fire agencies saved four surrounding structures.  Paso Robles Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Atascadero will host the 12th annual Brew at the Zoo on Sept. 6 from 5–8 p.m. as the Central Coast Zoo—partnering with the City of Atascadero—offers adults 21 and older craft beverages, live music, food, and contests to raise funds for zoo education and wildlife conservation.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Wine Country Theatre is showing its production of Little Shop of Horrors at Templeton Performing Arts Center through August 10, with performances on weekends. The show features 26 local performers and uses a Broadway-size stage—offering evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 2:00 p.m.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Paso Robles City Library will host an in-person screening of Rear Window on August 22 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in its conference room as part of Cinema Club, a monthly film event featuring films + discussions and snacks, with registration required for adults.  Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The SLO County CERT will offer a 24-hour Basic Training Course in disaster preparedness at the Colony Park Community Center in Atascadero beginning August 12, with sessions on August 12, 14, 19, and 21 (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and a final session on August 23 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Participants age 15 and older must attend all sessions to earn a certificate, and the fee is $40 per person or family with registration available online or at the center.  Paso Robles Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Gifford Fire expanded to 65,062 acres with 3% containment overnight in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, crossing Branch Mountain Road and moving toward Pine Canyon in San Luis Obispo. Crews worked along the northern flank near the Manchesna Wilderness—Highway 166 was closed from Highway 101 to New Cuyama and multiple evacuations were ordered.  CalCoast News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gary Grossman agreed to pay $548,170 to Pismo Beach for permission to repair his seawall after a long legal battle over Coastal Commission fees & the city council will vote on a resolution today to use the funds for coastal park and amenity improvements.  CalCoast News
