🌲 Environment
The Gifford Fire in Los Padres National Forest grew to nearly 40,000 acres after it started on Friday near the border of San Luis Obispo County and was 5% contained as of Sunday evening, forcing 226 evacuations and injuring three people—officials report that 60 structures remain at risk. Fire crews from the U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire are battling the blaze as forecasters warn that warm, dry conditions with gusts up to 25 mph could push the fire larger overnight.

Facing a leadership shortage after two resignations, the San Simeon Community Services District board voted on July 30 to request county help under a mutual aid agreement and began advertising for a new interim manager on water bills—county Supervisor Bruce Gibson confirmed the county is ready to assist.
