  • On July 30, the Atascadero Kiwanis Aktion Club donated 20 handmade, hand-tied blankets to children at the ECHO shelter. The club, which empowers adults with disabilities (sponsored by local Kiwanis clubs), made the donation as part of its ongoing community service.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Volatus Winery in Paso Robles will host the fundraiser Feeding Hope – One Slice at a Time on Saturday, Sept 6, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature handcrafted pizza, wine and live music by Hawaiian folk country artist Jamie Lawrence to benefit the El Camino Homeless Organization’s shelter services.  Paso Robles Daily News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fifteen San Luis Obispo restaurants have been awarded $5,000 grants from the PG&E Corporation Foundation to buy new equipment, train staff and upgrade operations—this funding is part of the Restaurants Care Resilience Fund that has supported 188 restaurants in 29 counties.   • Atascadero police warned residents about a phone scam where a caller impersonates law enforcement and asks for money—residents are told to hang up immediately instead of sharing personal or financial information.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • San Luis Obispo police arrested David Hurley – a 28-year-old man – on July 30 after three Cybertips led to the discovery of over 600 files of child sexual abuse material, and detectives later searched his workplace in Los Osos and his residence where devices were seized with bail set at $40,000.  CalCoast News
  • San Luis Obispo Police arrested David Augustine Hurley, 28, at his workplace in Los Osos on July 30 at 9:45 a.m. after an investigation uncovered more than 600 files of child sexual abuse material plus detectives later searched his residence on the 1000 block of Pismo Avenue, and he now faces felony charges for possession and distribution of such material.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Cal Fire reopened La Panza Station 41 after the station closed for several weeks of scheduled maintenance — officials confirmed it is now fully operational and ready to serve the community.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • The Central Coast Phillies will launch an 18-and-under showcase softball team to give high school players exposure to college coaches; tryouts will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Liberty High School in Paso Robles with former college pitcher Elise Foster leading the team.  Paso Robles Daily News
