  • The Alchemists’ Garden in downtown Paso Robles will celebrate its five-year anniversary on July 31 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1144 Pine St—admission is free with RSVP and the event will feature a live DJ, complimentary birthday cake and food and drink options for purchase.  Paso Robles Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • San Luis Obispo police arrested Glendale man Nathaniel Lee, 23-year-old, on Sunday night for DUI after he fled officers from a Marsh Street parking garage and tossed nitrous oxide canisters from his vehicle before nearly colliding with a police car at 7:45 p.m.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Simeon Community Services District general manager Geoff English resigned on July 21 plus board member Jacqueline Diamond resigned on July 22 amid a worsening financial crisis and concerns over declining revenues; the district has spent $25,000 a month from its reserves as hotel tax revenues dropped 47% and water sales fell 35%, and officials are studying options to dissolve or restructure the district to manage its future challenges.  CalCoast News
  • San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow appeared on Fox News earlier this month to discuss judicial matters surrounding ICE operations and deportation procedures — he said DHS is committed to doing their jobs.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Parts of San Luis Obispo County lost 911 service on Tuesday afternoon, affecting both landline and cellular calls in San Miguel, Arroyo Grande, and Nipomo. The sheriff's office is working with Frontier, Verizon — and possibly AT&T — to restore service and urges residents to call a different phone if a 911 call fails.  CalCoast News
  • Atascadero will remove an aging heritage Deodar cedar from Sunken Gardens this week as safety concerns rise and East Mall will be closed for one day during the work—city officials said a new cedar will be planted soon and wood from the tree will be available for purchase in the fall.  Paso Robles Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • At the end of June, Wilshire Health and Community Services closed its doors, leaving many seniors without vital support through the Good Neighbor Program which served 172 clients a day—creating a steep gap in care. Home health and hospice patients have been moved to other providers, and SLOCOG will meet with the Board of Supervisors in October to find a solution for transportation needs.  KSBY-TV
