COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Four juvenile males were under investigation for starting the Fourth of July fire at Templeton Feed & Grain while communities joined civil rights actions and free shuttles boosted traffic near Paso Robles for the Mid-State Fair. Meanwhile, San Luis Obispo County Airport will expand flights and close a small runway to add hangar space starting in November—drawing pushback from pilots—and crews have stabilized a 6.8-mile stretch of Highway 1 after a 650-foot landslide that hurt local tourism, while a new disc golf course opened at Nipomo Regional Park after a two-year community effort.  KSBY
  • Hope Family Wines hosted the annual 2025 Austin Hope Charity Golf Tournament at Hunter Ranch Golf Course—players and donors raised more than $160,000 to benefit Must! Charities’ work in supporting local nonprofits in the Paso Robles wine region. Organizers said plans for next year's event are already underway.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • At the California Mid-State Fair on July 17 at 6:30 p.m., county agriculture leaders were honored at the awards ceremony held at the Paso Robles Pavilion. Marty Settevendemie was named Agriculturalist of the Year, Debbie Arnold was awarded CattleWoman of the Year, and Jill Twisselman Heely earned Cattleman of the Year—about 1,500 people attended the event.  Paso Robles Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • A San Luis Obispo man faces six charges for drug and firearm offenses after he allegedly approached a neighbor with a shotgun at his Phillips Lane apartment complex, and police later found suspected methamphetamine, multiple firearms, and non-serialized parts at his apartment as well as his parents’ home (Clover Drive), which led to his arrest with bail set at $350,000.  CalCoast News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Circus Vargas extended its run in San Luis Obispo at Madonna Meadows and will offer family-friendly shows featuring aerialists and acrobats until Monday, July 21. The show follows a Hollywood Dreams theme and includes new acts by the Colombian Meza high wire troupe — a treat for all ages.  KSBY-TV
  • The Central Coast is now a Michelin Guide hotspot for top restaurants. In Los Alamos, Bell's retained its star for the fifth year and in Arroyo Grande, Ember earned a mention for the fourth time— local chefs say local farms, fishermen and ranchers help make their dishes unique.  KSBY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly received a five-star rating from Money Magazine in its Best Colleges list, showing strong marks for affordability, graduation rates and job outcomes (this is the third consecutive year it earned the top rating). The rating used 25 data points across 732 colleges (including early career salaries over $90,000) to highlight the school’s value.  Mustang News
  • Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Superintendent Jennifer Loftus will host a public coffee talk on July 22 at 8 a.m. in the boardroom at 800 Niblick Rd. — the meeting is open to community members and will foster open dialogue — inviting everyone to share their thoughts.  Paso Robles Daily News
