- ➤ The Central Coast Surf Boys 2017 (B17) soccer team will host a community car wash fundraiser on July 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fortress Custom Crush (3090 Anderson Road in Paso Robles) to raise funds for uniforms, league fees and equipment for their first outdoor season with tacos from Órale Taqueria available to help support the effort. - ➤ Woods Humane Society will host its Electric Doggy Carnival on July 23 and July 30 at its shelter on 875 Oklahoma Ave.—The event will offer extended hours from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and reduced adult dog adoption fees of $50, giving the public full access to all pet housing areas. - ➤ The Rotary Club of Paso Robles will host the 26th annual Winemakers’ Cookoff on Aug. 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Paso Robles Event Center — local wineries will offer wine and food pairings with live music to benefit the Harlow Ford Scholarship Fund as the event continues a tradition that has raised over $1 million for youth scholarships. - ➤ Highway 101 construction began from the Broad Street exit to California Boulevard and will continue through next June with lane and ramp closures on weeknights from 8 P.M. to 6 A.M. and Sunday nights from 10 P.M., while crews in Stadium Park cleared brush to lower wildfire risk. Residents near Irish Hills held a meet-up with fire officials to learn fire safety, drivers near the California Mid-State Fair were warned of heavy traffic, and the historic Cayucos Landing is set to reopen this August—restored at an $11.3 million cost with new event and art spaces. - ➤ The Ava Hotel in downtown Paso Robles has unveiled its food and beverage team led by chef Julien Asseo and featuring chef de cuisine Casey McMinn, sommelier Lannon Rust, and hospitality director Brandon Trowbridge as the hotel prepares for its summer opening. The hotel, managed by Azul Hospitality Group and owned by Paso Robles Hotel Partners, will offer three dining venues including Emre by Julien Asseo and Esperanza on the Rooftop — the town's largest rooftop bar. - ➤ San Luis Obispo County sheriff deputies identified four juvenile males who set an arson fire on July 4 that destroyed Templeton Feed and Grain (their names are not released) and the Templeton Fire Department will work with the district attorney to decide on charges. CalCoast News
- ➤ Attorney John Belsher’s San Luis Obispo home on El Cerrito Street sold for $600,000 at a sheriff’s auction on July 17th to pay part of a $3.6 million civil fraud judgment. Jeff Chase won the auction with the only competing bid — his winning bid will offset the debt owed by Belsher. CalCoast News

- ➤ The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery at Cuesta College is opening its ‘High Tide’ exhibition today with a reception from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The show, featuring over 60 local artists in a community-driven display, runs through Aug. 22 — a closing celebration is set for Aug. 14 with free admission. - ➤ Cal Poly’s financial management program at Orfalea College of Business has been certified by the CFP Board, making its graduates eligible to take the CFP exam after graduation. The program (which enrolls over 400 students) offers courses in finance, accounting and economics to prepare future financial planners. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ Crews have worked every day for over a year to clear a big landslide on Highway 1 that blocks the road between Ragged Point and Big Sur — they moved more than 500,000 cubic yards of dirt with remote-controlled machines and will set the opening date by mid-September when the slide settles.
