- ➤ A Catholic priest pleaded not guilty to 26 counts of child molestation, with allegations he abused boys under 14 decades ago in the county—six new charges were added and he is held without bail pending a pre-preliminary hearing on July 31. KSBY-TV
- ➤ On July 8, deputies responded to a domestic violence call on the 800 block of Golden Meadow Drive where a woman was treated for injuries and a 41-year-old suspect barricaded himself until he surrendered at 10:16 p.m.—he was then arrested on charges including false imprisonment and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury. - ➤ The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District will hold a classified staff job fair on July 14 at the Board Room at 800 Niblick Road — the event will offer on-site interviews and application assistance for bus drivers, paraeducators, custodians and additional roles. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Money magazine released its 2025-26 Best Colleges list on June 25 and Cal Poly earned a five-star rating as one of 18 Californian colleges noted for high graduation rates and strong job outcomes. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters halted the forward spread of the Madre Fire in San Luis Obispo with cooler temperatures and reduced winds, reaching 62% containment and reopening Highway 166 on Tuesday evening. The fire burned 80,610 acres, destroyed one outbuilding, and repair efforts continue while a caller reported another fire near Highway 166 shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday and a firefighter was injured on Sunday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials held an open house Wednesday to discuss a proposed fee for agricultural, commercial and public water system pumpers in the Paso Robles Groundwater Basin that will fund the Groundwater Sustainability Plan to meet state law. Affected pumpers on 1,315 parcels have been notified and may protest the fee by August 1, and another open house is held today at the Creston Community Center at 5 p.m.—local officials say the fee will help balance groundwater use.
