  • Madre Fire has burned over 35,000 acres east of Santa Maria with only 5% contained while Highway 166 remains closed and evacuation orders are still in place. Local officials updated details in the Los Osos shooting of 40-year-old Andrew Biscay, arrested a 37-year-old in a Nipomo road rage, secured funding for the Library Parks Pass, and reminded residents that fireworks are allowed only in select areas—everyone is urged to follow safety tips as Fourth of July celebrations begin today.  KSBY-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • In the last six months, nearly 200 PG&E energy scams have been reported by customers from San Luis Obispo, Monterey, Santa Cruz & San Benito counties, with losses totaling over $190,000. PG&E warned that scammers use tactics like fake 800 numbers and urgent payment demands & advised customers to verify bill details by logging in online or calling customer service.  KSBY-TV
  • San Luis Obispo police arrested a man on July 3rd when his pickup truck struck a pedestrian after a road rage incident on Highway 101 — the suspect, Miguel Solisvargas, faces felony assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism charges — and the victim later got treatment for his injuries.  CalCoast News

  • The fast moving Madre Fire grew overnight to 35,530 acres — with only 5% containment—and continues to spread because of high winds, steep terrain, and dry grasses. Officials ordered evacuations and closed Highway 166 after a call reported the fire near the highway.  CalCoast News
  • Crews are battling the Madre Fire burning near Carrizo Plains in eastern San Luis Obispo County today—covering 35,530 acres and 5% contained as of 6 a.m.—while evacuations have been ordered east of the blaze and smoky conditions are expected to continue.  Paso Robles Daily News
