  • The Restaurant at Justin in Paso Robles kept its Michelin Star and Michelin Green Star ratings at a ceremony in Sacramento, marking its fourth year in a row of top results. Executive Chef Rachel Haggstrom—along with Executive Sous Chef Stanley Carbajal and Restaurant Manager Nazare Azevedo—led a team that uses mainly local produce for a seasonally changing, farm-to-table menu offered at the winery’s tasting room and guest rooms.  Paso Robles Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • Prosecutors charged former mayoral candidate Gaea Edde Powell, 62, with nine counts including voter registration fraud and perjury after she falsely claimed an Arroyo Grande address in the 2022 and 2024 elections—investigators say she lived in a rural area and was ineligible to vote.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Morro Bay police arrested a 40-year-old felon on June 27 near Marina Street and Morro Avenue after stopping his vehicle for a code violation and probable impaired driving—officers found a loaded gun, suspected fentanyl, and burglary tools on him, and he was booked on charges including drugs, firearm possession, and burglary tools.  CalCoast News
  • On June 27th, around 9 p.m., Grover Beach police arrested 37-year-old Alex Echeverriahuchin—whose vehicle suddenly entered an intersection and forced an officer to brake hard—marking his second DUI arrest in one week as he was booked on charges of driving under the influence.  CalCoast News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Congressional Committee on Education and Workforce sent a letter to Cal Poly President Armstrong on June 26 asking him to clarify details from his May 7 testimony on combating antisemitism. The committee requested updated documentation on mandatory training, the creation of a Presidential Antisemitism Task Force, and fundraising plans for an endowed chair and interfaith center — responses are due by July 10 to verify compliance with Title VI following recent vandalism.  Mustang News

HEALTH NEWS

  • On June 23, Tolosa Children’s Dental Center received a $28,000 grant from Justin to upgrade technology at its Paso Robles and Shandon teledentistry offices — the new computers will improve data security and help staff review health information for underserved children.  Paso Robles Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Don Oberhelman, who led Cal Poly Athletics for 15 years, announced his retirement on June 9 due to health concerns and changes in college sports—he will remain in the role until a successor is named. He said he plans to spend his retirement traveling, reading, and with his family—stating the decision benefits both his personal life and the university.  Mustang News
