  • The Gaviota State Beach Pier remains closed with no repair timeline while a transitional housing site for survivors opened today in Paso Robles, a new fireworks ordinance is now effective in unincorporated areas, the unemployment rate has dropped to 3.6% amid a rise in leisure and hospitality jobs, and JUSTIN Vineyards is awarding $350,000 in grants to local nonprofits. A local volunteer released the first-ever field guide for Pismo Preserve — a pocket guide covering its 11 miles of trails over 900 scenic acres for residents and visitors.  KSBY
  • Paso Robles volunteers will host a free workshop on summer vegetables at Uptown Family Park Community Garden (641 36th Street) on June 28 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., where participants of all ages will learn about vegetable lifecycles and pollinators (the fourth event in a monthly series).  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Studios on the Park will open a collaborative exhibition with Earth Gowns titled 'Earth Gowns: Earth, Air, Fire, Water' on July 5 in the Atrium Gallery, featuring 25 unique garments by 14 textile artists using recycled and natural materials. A reception will be held on Aug. 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.—the show runs until Aug. 31.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Cal Poly invites the public to see a rare corpse flower bloom at the campus Plant Conservatory this week; the Titan Arum, known for its large size and strong odor, will be viewable for about 24+48 hours once it fully blossoms while plant biologists set visiting hours.  CalCoast News
  • Cal Poly officials say a rare corpse flower will bloom this week at the Plant Conservatory and invite the public to visit, while university biologists plan to set special hours for viewing (the event marks the first display at the conservatory since it opened in 2023).  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Luis Obispo County approved a new ordinance on June 19 that bans all unpermitted fireworks in unincorporated areas such as Oceano and Cayucos and raises fines to $1,000 per incident. Officials said the rule aims to lower wildfire risk and will see law enforcement focus on areas with higher fire danger.  KSBY-TV
  • Caltrans will fully close Highway 1 near Rocky Creek starting Sunday at 10 p.m. until Monday at 6 a.m. to allow a crane to deliver seawall materials for emergency repairs—flaggers briefly managed traffic with delays up to 20 minutes, and more than 100 miles of the coast highway remain open.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • The Paso Robles Backroads Wine Trail will host the 'Discover the Undiscovered' Rosé Roundup at Loading Chute Barn in Creston on June 29 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.—featuring tastings from 15 local wineries and live music by Rivers Ridge Band—and will offer a $35 Rosé Passport that includes wine tastings, appetizers and raffles while general entry is $15 and children tickets cost $10.  Paso Robles Daily News
