  • The Templeton Run Club and Rotary will host a free Independence Day 5K on July 4 with check-in starting at 6:30 a.m. near the Templeton Park gazebo — the out-and-back course will wind along oak-lined streets and finish under heritage oaks ahead of the town parade.  Paso Robles Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • San Luis Obispo police will run a DUI checkpoint on the 900 block of Marsh Street tomorrow evening from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.—officers will check licenses, insurance and look for signs of impairment based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests.  CalCoast News
  • On June 4th, 2025, police stopped a car with expired tags on Los Osos Valley Road and, after a brief struggle during a search that revealed drugs including MDMA, fentanyl, psilocybin mushrooms and methamphetamine, they arrested driver Micah Ayhens, Rickter Marr & front passenger Kiona Zamora.  CalCoast News

  • The Paso Robles City Library is hosting its monthly in-person book group discussion on June 18 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to review The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb, a novel that follows Ray McMillian, a Black violinist whose priceless Stradivarius is stolen before a major competition.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Templeton Library will launch its Summer Reading Program, Dive Into Reading, on Tuesday, June 10. Young readers ages 3 to 18 will earn prizes for every 80 minutes reading — they will also get tickets for a drawing on Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. — and win gifts including two bikes and a GiBoard donated by Janice and Steve Tollefson.  Paso Robles Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At the Cal Poly Pier in Avila Beach, Sydney Yium collects weekly water samples to track harmful algal blooms that release toxins—information she shares with scientists and officials to warn local communities. The research, which also involves Morro Bay monitoring sites, helps forecast bloom trends worsened by climate change and supports timely public safety alerts.  Mustang News

  • SLOCOG launched a pilot program that reduced Amtrak Pacific Surfliner fares 75% among Guadalupe, Grover Beach, and San Luis Obispo to help lessen traffic congestion—officials plan to add a third round trip to San Luis Obispo in the next year. Local commuters have already noted that these lower fares offer a simpler alternative to Highway 101 traffic.  KSBY-TV
