  • Today, fire officials in San Luis Obispo County are conducting a prescribed burn 20 minutes east of Santa Margarita to clear 17 acres while Rite Aid is closing locations in Morro Bay, Solvang, Goleta, Los Osos, and Santa Maria following its second bankruptcy filing. The county airport will begin constructing a solar carport canopy this month to offset annual energy use and Morro Bay City Hall held its final Pride flag raising after a council vote effective July 1; San Luis Ambulance is donating 80 AEDs and Dignity Health will offer CPR demos at the Farmers' Market as Santa Barbara officials urge residents to prepare for fire season — experts advise having evacuation plans and defensible spaces.  KSBY-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Grover Beach police arrested 33-year-old Steven Oscar Gonzalez—an alleged car thief on community supervision—for leading a high-speed chase that began Tuesday morning when his stolen vehicle was spotted cruising Grover Beach and later lost control on Highway 101 near Los Berros Road, rolling over and ending the pursuit.  CalCoast News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The San Luis Obispo History Center hosted an exhibit titled 'A Dream Interrupted' that highlighted the Yoshida family's incarceration during World War II using artifacts, oral histories, and photos curated by Cal Poly students. The display opened May 30 and remained open through August.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The city of Paso Robles will host an Evening of Poetry on Friday, June 6 at 5 p.m. at Studios on the Park (1130 Pine Street) featuring County Poet Laureate Dr. Caleb Nichols, Kevin Clark, Dian Sousa & Jacqueline Berger in a free public event.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • California Mid-State Fair has released its Frontier Stage lineup for events that will run from July 16 to July 27; the schedule will start on July 16 at 6 p.m. with the pageant and will feature acts such as Stephen Pearcy, Peter Noone with Herman’s Hermits, Mason Ramsey and others with shows beginning at 8 p.m. — fair admission is required and local residents can purchase discounted tickets until July 15 — the fair will offer additional vendors and activities throughout its run.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Regional Mexican group Banda El Recodo will perform at Vina Robles Amphitheatre on Sept. 19 during its La Madre de Todas las Bandas Tour. Tickets will go on sale on Ticketmaster on Friday, June 6 at 10 a.m. & the band has earned nine Latin Grammy and 12 Premios Lo Nuestro awards.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 3, Homeland Security released a list naming San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo County — and Santa Barbara County as sanctuary jurisdictions that risk losing federal funding for allegedly defying federal immigration enforcement. An April 28 executive order required the list to notify these areas and to pursue legal remedies for their noncompliance.  CalCoast News
