Opolo Vineyards in Paso Robles became the first U.S. winery to gain federal approval to bottle the Balkan grape Vranac—its 2021 Vranac Reserve is priced at $60 per bottle with a production limit of 50 cases available at the tasting room.

The winery sourced its Vranac vines through UC Davis and expanded its planting from 1,000 vines in 2018 to honor its Balkan heritage.

Atascadero police broke up a large drug operation by seizing 12 pounds of drugs — including cocaine and fentanyl — and guns from properties in Paso Robles after a month-long investigation and arrested two suspects.
