- ➤ On Monday, hundreds attended a Veterans Day Remembrance Service at the Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum just before noon, where ROTC presented colors and honored veterans. The museum is holding an online auction through May 30 (sponsored by local Masons and other groups) to fund its exhibits. KSBY-TV

- ➤ The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum is hosting an online fundraising auction in honor of Memorial Day now through May 30, 2026 & it features over 30 items including wine tours, golf packages, and artwork donated by locals to support museum operations and community programs. KSBY-TV
- ➤ Cal Poly students of color built a vibrant community through cuisine by using SLO Asian Market (a trusted local hub for 36 years) to source rare ingredients for traditional dishes; the market supported student events, including last month’s Lantern Festival that showcased diverse cultural cooking traditions. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Several sororities at Cal Poly have begun welcoming new members this spring through continuous open bidding, an informal process featuring casual meetings instead of formal rush events. - ➤ After ticket sales sold out, Cal Poly will livestream Mustangs to the Moon and Back, an evening talk with alumnus Victor Glover. The speaker will share his Artemis II mission flight experiences on June 15 at the Performing Arts Center pavilion — viewers can watch on YouTube. Mustang News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ North River Water Management Advisory Committee will host a fundraiser at Cal Coast Beer Co. on June 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. — tickets will cost $50 and include live music, barbecue, raffles, and a silent auction to support Lake Nacimiento preservation for the county. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ ASI installed 520 solar panels on University Union’s rooftop that generate 110 kilowatts of renewable energy, helping Cal Poly meet its goal of supplying 30% of campus power and reducing carbon emissions (enough to power 40 homes). Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Fire San Luis Obispo and partners began prescribed burns in California Valley on May 26 near Fire Station 42 to control yellow star thistle and lower wildfire risk; the burns will run through June 19 and may create smoke along Highway 58, Branch Mountain, and Soda Lake Roads. - ➤ PG&E is inspecting 130 county sirens in See Canyon, Squire Canyon & Davis Canyon & Perfumo Canyon from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays over the next few weeks; if a siren sounds for minutes, residents should check local radio or TV for updates. KSBY-TV

- ➤ Cal Poly’s annual Out of the Darkness Walk raised a record $20,125 on May 16 at the University Union as students, families and mental health advocates gathered to support suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Mustang News
