- ➤ Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County announced that Anthony Overton, who has over 20 years of experience in education, will become its new CEO starting June 20. He will host events on June 18 at the San Luis Obispo Blues baseball game and on June 24 (Coffee with the CEO) at Belnano Coffee in Atascadero. Paso Robles Daily News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Cirrus SR22T airplane crashed during takeoff from the San Luis Obispo County Airport on Friday morning when the pilot lost control causing the landing gear to collapse and the engine to catch fire—operations were temporarily halted as firefighters extinguished the blaze and hazmat crews cleaned up a fuel spill while both the pilot and passenger declined medical help. - ➤ On May 23, a 31-year-old Atascadero man pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, narcotics possession and hit-and-run resulting in the death of an 11-year-old boy—he now faces up to eight years and eight months in prison and will be sentenced on July 25. CalCoast News

- ➤ Angel Yahir Gomez, a Paso Robles native and graduate of Paso Robles High School, will graduate from Princeton University on May 27 with a BA in chemistry + he will join Caltech's doctoral program in chemistry this fall. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Saint Rose Catholic School will host its first annual Rockin’ with the Roses concert on May 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Le Vigne Winery to raise funds for its athletics department—gates open at 3 p.m. while the event offers performances by Soundhouse and alumna Kara along with free games, raffles and family attractions. - ➤ San Luis Obispo County deputies rescued a missing 64-year-old man from Pismo Beach who had left his home on March 25 and became dehydrated near a creek after his cell phone died, with the search team using cell phone data, K9s and drones to locate him before transporting him to a hospital where he recovered. - ➤ Cal Poly baseball recorded its first Big West postseason win when the Mustangs beat CSU Fullerton 7 to 2 at Goodwin Field on Thursday—pitcher Griffin Naess threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings as the offense tallied 15 hits. Mustang News
- ➤ On Friday, UC Irvine beat Cal Poly 15 to 3 at Goodwin Field as the Anteaters built their lead early and scored six runs in the fourth inning. Cal Poly now faces an elimination game against the winner of the Hawai’i/Fullerton contest at 3 p.m. Saturday — they must win twice to stay in the tournament. Mustang News
