COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A glow-themed yoga and dance fundraiser called Glow-ga and Glow Dance Party will be held on May 30 from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. at Centennial Park—600 Nickerson Drive to benefit the North County Dance and Performing Arts Foundation. The event will start with glow paint check-in from 5 to 5:30 p.m., then a glow yoga session from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. and a dance party with DJ Pancho Gonzo, with tickets ranging from $25 to $75 and optional glow kits for $5.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Leadership North County, a program supported by local Chambers, will begin accepting applications on May 21 for its seventh cohort, which includes a weekend retreat + nine full-day workshops. Applicants must commit to full participation with employer support and will be interviewed after submission.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Cooper is a six-year-old pet from Woods Humane Society who was displaced in the LA fires and brought in from an L.A. shelter in January — staff call him a loyal, gentle friend good on a leash and ready to join a loving family. The shelter hopes he finds his forever home soon.  KSBY-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss, owner of Halter Ranch Vineyard in Paso Robles, faces a lawsuit in San Luis Obispo County that alleges he groped, exposed himself and attempted to engage a former employee in a threesome—claims that have also led to additional legal action by a former staff member over wages and equity.  CalCoast News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • San Luis Obispo County saw its unemployment rate fall to 3.8% in April from 4.1% in March, as the hospitality and private services sectors added 500 jobs each + local governments cut 600 jobs, according to the state Employment Development Department. The rate now remains lower than the national 3.9% and state 5% levels.  CalCoast News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Travel Paso awarded eight high school seniors $2,500 each at its Tourism Round Up Event on May 8—scholarships managed by the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County support higher education costs for students from tourism families. The awards form part of a larger $625,000 scholarship program across the county this year.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Representative Salud Carbajal held a virtual press conference on Friday where he warned that a bill cutting $300 billion from SNAP could end food assistance for 119,000 local residents and 900 veterans. He said the House and Senate will review the proposal in the next few weeks while local food banks stress that SNAP is an essential support program.  KSBY-TV
