- ➤ Firefighters responded on May 14 at 2:45 p.m. to a vegetation fire behind 1811 North River Road in Paso Robles that was caused by homeless activity — crews contained the one-quarter acre fire in 20 minutes with help from Paso Robles, Cal Fire and San Luis Obispo County while police managed traffic. - ➤ The California Highway Patrol in Templeton teamed with the Coastal Division to patrol U.S. 101 and State Route 46 after data showed many cases of aggressive driving. Officers issued citations and warnings—one investigation led to a multi-vehicle crash, and they continue to advise drivers to keep safe by avoiding risky behavior. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has appointed Brandon Duncan as the new principal at Lewis Flamson Junior High School and he will start with the 2025–2026 school year—he brings over 24 years of experience from roles such as principal at McKee Middle School in Bakersfield—and will relocate to Paso Robles with his family to lead the school's tradition of academic excellence. - ➤ Today the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District named Andrea Kittelson as its new director of data, assessment — she will start her role next school year and lead the review of school data for better planning. Kittelson brings over 25 years of teaching and school leadership experience to her new position. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District named former high school assistant principal Rachel Gustafson as its new coordinator of student services (effective July 1) to lead new behavior and attendance programs. She will work with site leaders (including the district’s director of student services) to update discipline policies and ensure a safe, fair learning environment. Paso Robles Daily News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fire officials will conduct a prescribed burn on 25 acres of private land near Santa Margarita on Tuesday, May 20 at 10 a.m. as part of Cal Fire’s Vegetation Management Program aimed at reducing wildfire risk & promoting ecological resilience. The burn will be carried out in cooperation with private landowners, the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, the County Air Pollution Control District and the Community Fire Safe Council. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ San Luis Obispo County officials revealed a $38 million deficit that will force a 15% budget cut across every department and may lead to eliminating 168 positions—public health and other services could face the steepest losses. The budget hearings will take place from June 9-11 as officials warn that without further action, the deficit could reach $67 million in future fiscal years. KSBY
