CRIME NEWS

  • On May 9th a federal jury found Santa Maria man Rochlem Eric Aquino Yadao, 48, guilty of conspiracy to deal in firearms without a license in a 2020 scheme involving ghost guns across three counties — he is scheduled to be sentenced on August 25th and faces up to 10 years in prison.  CalCoast News
  • Cal Poly police investigated vandalism on two campus signs found at 5 a.m. on Thursday—one at the Santa Rosa entrance and one at the College of Engineering—as crews removed the paint and added extra security to protect the investigation.  KSBY-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 20th annual Pinot and Paella Festival will occur Sunday, June 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Templeton Community Park where local chefs will compete with original paella recipes paired with 25 local Pinot Noirs to benefit the Paso Robles Youth Arts Center. The event will also feature music by the Cimo Brothers (samba, salsa and gypsy jazz).  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Today, the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center hosts Symphony in Bloom — an annual celebration to benefit the SLO Symphony. The event features cellist Amit Peled who will perform the Elgar Cello Concerto at 7:30 p.m. after the sold-out Symphony Ball.  KSBY-TV
  • Third grader Quinn Newman from Paso Robles earned first place overall and the top score in her division at the HEAT Dance Convention in Santa Clara on May 8. She received a full scholarship for her musical theater solo — a performance of 'The Amazing Gertrude' from Seussical the Musical — and will perform live on May 17 at the Templeton Performing Arts Center.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Paso Robles councilman Chris Bausch is ordered by Judge Michael Kelley to provide records requested by the Tribune by May 15 & if he fails to comply, a third-party consultant will access his personal devices & a hearing is set for Nov. 4.  CalCoast News
  • San Luis Obispo County Airport will add solar carport canopies over parking lot 4 to cut energy use and lower costs. Construction begins June 2 and finishes in November—passengers should use the temporary overflow lot on Airport Drive.  KSBY-TV
