- ➤ The Atascadero Veterans Memorial Foundation will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at the Faces of Freedom Memorial—featuring a flyover by Estrella Warbirds, a color presentation by Cal Poly ROTC, and guest speaker pilot Melissa Hughes. A wreath will be laid to honor Barber Dan while veteran groups set up information booths and the Kiwanis Club hosts a barbecue. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ San Luis Obispo will join the national food drive Stamp Out Hunger on Saturday, May 10 when locals drop a bag of non-perishable food outside their mailbox for USPS pickup, and community leaders say the event fills food pantries across the Central Coast (over 1.82 billion pounds collected in 30 years). - ➤ On May 7, the San Luis Obispo Police Department issued 35 citations to drivers and bicyclists for violations like texting, unsafe speed and running a stop sign during a citywide bicycle and pedestrian safety operation from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.—the program was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. - ➤ San Luis Obispo police arrested a driver for DUI after a black Chevrolet Silverado struck a bicyclist on the Broad Street bike lane near the Marigold Center on May 7— the pickup dragged the pedestrian 30 feet, causing moderate injuries that led to hospital treatment. CalCoast News

- ➤ Seven Cal Poly students received scholarships from the San Luis Obispo County CattleWomen association to support their agricultural education; the awards ranged from $1,000–$2,000 and were presented at Madonna Inn. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly president Jeffrey Armstrong testified before the House Education and Workforce Committee in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to address claims of antisemitism on campus and said the university has taken steps to improve student safety—campus police are ready to act as needed—while other college leaders also testified.
