- ➤ Gas prices in San Luis Obispo County increased one cent to $5.03 a gallon on May 4th, according to AAA, as economic concerns and extra oil output kept crude prices low. Local stations such as Costco and San Paso Truck Stop offer cheaper gas at about $4.49—a welcome option for drivers facing higher fuel costs. CalCoast News

- ➤ Paso Robles High School’s SkillsUSA Chapter 211 earned 11 medals at the 58th annual California SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference in Ontario, where 55 students competed in 20 contests under the guidance of seven advisors. Four gold medalists — Frida Bejar Rico, Kyle Dart, Patrick Malufau, and Asyel Mendoza — will represent the school at the national competition in Atlanta this June. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ An exploding squirrel population in Pismo Beach has eroded bluffs and damaged parks, prompting the City Council to review control measures. At an April 15 meeting, staff discussed options such as carbon monoxide poisoning and mechanical control—trapping or shooting—and left the final decision to them. CalCoast News
- ➤ For the fifth year, Paso Robles began using hundreds of goats and sheep along the Salinas River corridor to lower fire risks. Grazing started at Larry Moore Park on May 2 and will finish by June 10—an effort supported by the San Luis Obispo County Community Fire Safe Council—designed to reduce fuel loads after recent rain.
