- ➤ The 10th annual Atascadero Tamale Festival kicked off Friday evening with Fiesta Friday and continues today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Atascadero, where families can enjoy tamale samples, contests, live music, and local shopping (bring your wallet for food and merchandise). KSBY-TV
- ➤ Racines Wine is constructing a new 17,000-sqft warehouse in Lompoc for wine production and storage while a downtown Santa Maria parking structure near the public library is partly closed for repairs until next week; San Luis Obispo residents can currently vote online in the Dream Dog contest. - ➤ Firestone Walker and pFriem Family Brewers launched 'pFreal,' a limited-edition West Coast IPA for the Beer Fest on May 30, available in canned six-packs and on draft from select locations. - ➤ San Luis Obispo County’s unemployment rate fell to 4.1% in March, as the state Employment Development Department reported job gains in state and local government and leisure and hospitality — a trend placing the county eighth among 58 statewide with a rate below both state and national levels. - ➤ Paso Robles High School named Paul Otto (20 years of coaching experience) as its new athletic director; he will begin on July 1 and focus on strengthening academic and sports programs. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Kermit King Elementary School has named Anna Williams as its new student engagement specialist; she will begin on July 27 and focus on boosting school safety, attendance, and family engagement in Paso Robles. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Amie Macbeth is set to be deputy principal at Paso Robles High School beginning July 13 (over 20 years' experience) and will work with school staff to boost student learning and streamline the administration. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has named experienced school psychologist Jennifer Thomas as the new Coordinator II of Special Education, effective July 1. She will oversee services for over 6,400 students + build on her work since 2017. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Retired superintendent Curt Dubost shared how his weekly school visits remind him of the value of supporting local kids while honoring late volunteer Bill Krum, who passed away recently and once led key school projects; he urges community members to volunteer as coaches+classroom aides+referees to benefit local youth. - ➤ Spirit, a two-year-old terrier Pit Bull mix at Woods Humane Society, is available for adoption. She arrived in October and loves cuddling (she enjoys meeting new people and playing with toys) as she waits for her forever home. KSBY
