- ➤ Residents in the Five Cities area—including Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Oceano, Pismo Beach, and Avila Beach—have been advised by SLO County Public Works to boil water before drinking or cooking as bacteria was found in the water system, and officials expect the issue to be fixed by Sunday, May 4. - ➤ Braver Angels will host a free two-hour event titled 'Polarization is Hurting Us All: Let’s Have a Conversation' on Sunday, May 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1301 Osos Street in San Luis Obispo—organizers plan structured group discussions to address political and social polarization. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ CHP identified two Nipomo drivers—63-year-old Melchor David Delagarza and 49-year-old Darlene Leticia Scruggs—killed in a head-on crash Monday evening on Orchard Road near Cherry Blossom Place when Delagarza’s white pickup, while passing, hit Scruggs’ white SUV and then crashed into a red sedan that injured another driver, and the investigation is ongoing. - ➤ On April 30, a downed power line in Paso Robles sparked three small fires and left 713 PG&E customers without power, with firefighters quickly extinguishing the largest blaze and crews planning to restore power by 5 p.m. — by 3 p.m., 524 customers still remained without power. CalCoast News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 20, police arrested four residents during a narcotics investigation—detectives stopped a vehicle at 9:50 a.m. on Santa Rosa Street near Meinecke and later searched a Murray Avenue home where they found controlled substances, cash, weapons, and drug-making materials, and additional suspects were charged with operating a drug house and multiple controlled substance offenses. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The San Luis Obispo Climate Coalition held its annual Earth Fest at Meadow Park last Saturday—local vendors and nonprofits taught community members ways to protect the environment. Reporters spoke with attendees to learn how local efforts are making a difference. Mustang News
- ➤ Starting Friday, May 2, Paso Robles will use goats and sheep from The Goat Girls LLC—funded by grants from the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council—to graze firebreaks along the Salinas River as part of its Vegetation Management Program to lower wildfire risk. Temporary walking path closures near Larry Moore Park and a tree planting project in a burn scar area are planned during the project. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ The San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Department is teaming up with three local libraries to open free Awareness Galleries for Mental Health Month.
