ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency crews responded to a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Orchard Road near Cherry Blossom Pl. in Nipomo just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening—both lanes were blocked and the roadway was closed to traffic.  KSBY-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A 41-year-old San Luis Obispo man, Ricardo Martinez Alfaro, was arrested by Santa Maria police for allegedly fleeing a scene in which he hit a pedestrian on the northbound on-ramp to Highway 101 at Broadway on April 24—officers booked him on felony hit-and-run causing injury.  CalCoast News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Paso wineries will take part in the 36th Annual Culinary Evening with California Winemasters charity gala on May 17 at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, where top wineries and chefs will serve small bites paired with wines to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Organizers say the event features walk-around tastings, live and silent auctions, and entertainment — promising a premium experience for all guests.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Templeton Unified School District will host a Facilities Information Night on April 30—from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.—at Vineyard Elementary School on 2121 Vineyard Dr. to explain the General Obligation Bond Measure D, covering planned projects, financial impact, and accountability measures for fund use.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Today the San Luis Obispo City Council will vote on a proposal to raise water rates by 11% and sewer rates by 13% to cover rising costs and needed improvements. The increases will boost a single-family home's sewer charge from $30.25 to $33.67 per month and raise other residential rates from $24.52 to $27.81, and property owners may file written protests under Proposition 218.  CalCoast News

  • Wildflower Experience will return to the Central Coast from May 2 to 4 with triathlons, runs, clinics, and festival events at Lake San Antonio in Monterey County.   • Elijah Ponder, a Cal Poly edge rusher, signed with the New England Patriots on Saturday as an undrafted free agent after his strong showing at the East-West Shrine Bowl + he now faces a battle to earn a roster spot during training camp. The Pomona native improved each season during his five years at Cal Poly, finishing with 26.5 sacks and earning First-Team All-Big Sky honors in both 2023 and 2024.  Mustang News
  • Cal Poly's women’s tennis team lost the Big West Championship final to UC Santa Barbara 4-2, finishing the season at 19-5 amid injury setbacks — a season marked as one of its best since 2003.
