  • Arroyo Grande City Council voted to approve a proposal for a mural at Monarch Books that features Central Coast imagery and a 'What’s your story?' theme — final approval is still pending.  KSBY

  • Gorjana opened its first county store Monday on Higuera Street in downtown SLO in a former Bluemercury space. The Laguna Beach brand, known for laid back elegance, offers versatile jewelry and operates from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday–Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.  Mustang News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly students will vote from Tuesday, Apr. 21 at 8 a.m. until Thursday, Apr. 23 at 8 a.m. via the Cal Poly portal to elect ASI Board of Directors and a president, with candidates (from several colleges) outlining plans to boost diversity, transparency, and mentorship.  Mustang News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The county held a community engagement meeting Monday to outline its five-phase desalination project funded by a USBR WaterSMART grant aimed at boosting water conservation during droughts — it will host another discussion today at 6 p.m. at Ramona Garden Park Center for those wanting to join the conversation.  KSBY
  • A wildfire burning in California Valley burned 38 acres and reached 40% containment Monday morning, following a 20-acre fire report off Highway 58 near California Trail Sunday night (dubbed the Helios Fire) with no injuries or structures damaged.  CalCoast News

  • Cal Poly football held an open practice at Spanos Stadium Friday at 6 p.m., giving fans a first look at the new team under coach Tim Skipper — players practiced drills, gave autographs and prepared for a season opener on Aug. 28.  Mustang News
