  • Fort Hunter Liggett will host its 24th Annual Youth Fishing Derby on April 25 from 6:30 a.m. to noon at Del Venturi Reservoir. The free event welcomes youth 15 and younger and requires advance registration (required).  Paso Robles Daily News
  • Wine 4 Paws has released its 2026 wine tasting map and event lineup featuring dog-friendly tastings and live music, with activities kicking off on April 24 and continuing through the weekend to support Woods Humane Society (helping fund animal care).  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The Oaks at Paso Robles is hosting its fifth anniversary event on May 7 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 526 South River Road — the celebration features local wines, dinner, live entertainment, and a raffle drawing for guests who bring a business card.  Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly alum Victor Glover returned from the Artemis II mission on Friday as over 300 students and community members gathered at University Union to view the Orion splashdown in the Pacific southwest of San Diego. The event celebrated his historic journey and the university’s Learn by Doing tradition.  Mustang News
  • A survey revealed that over 80% of Cal Poly engineering students oppose year-round operations because they fear lost internship opportunities & disrupted club activities. Interim Dean Robert Crockett said the college is writing the rules and exploring alternatives to address these concerns.  Mustang News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ordered the temporary closure of Oceano Dunes beginning Tuesday to protect endangered snowy plovers — California State Parks must secure a habitat conservation plan approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service before reopening the beach.  CalCoast News

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, Apr. 11, Cal Poly beach volleyball beat Cal 4-1 but lost 3-2 to Stanford at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. The team will play its final regular season match at the Stanford Tournament on Apr. 17-18.  Mustang News
