  • Monterey Street in front of the Fremont Theater reopened to traffic after a historic sign piece fell, but city officials said the sidewalk will remain closed as inspectors plan further work (to assess the sign’s internal steel structure) and the owner will remove sections in the coming days.   • Members of the Paso Lotus Car Club held a group drive on Apr. 2 along several routes starting on Highway 101 and finishing at The Sea Shanty Restaurant in Cayucos - organized by Obie and Joy Silverwood, the event featured a lineup of Lotus models.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • Anna & Nick Brannen are planning to reopen Gus’s Deli at 1638 Osos St after securing the lease last fall; they are waiting on permits and aim to open by summer with familiar build-your-own sandwiches and improved safety features. Hiring info and next steps will be shared soon.  KSBY-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly will host its 33rd annual Open House from Thursday, Apr. 9 to Saturday, Apr. 11, offering a campus preview night at the Farmers’ Market, admitted student sessions and a campus parade (Poly Royal Celebration) that honors 125 years of the university’s legacy.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Templeton Fire and Emergency Services urges property owners to begin weed abatement by the end of April to reduce fire risks from increased spring rains — properties must be cleared by May 1 and maintained through Nov. 30.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • San Luis Obispo finished its Mid-Higuera Bypass Project on Friday to reduce flooding risk around Higuera Street by adding two bypass channels, bench grading, and a bridge upgrade (raising flood capacity by 40 percent during a 25-year storm event) to protect flood-prone homes, businesses and wildlife.  KSBY-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Atascadero Police Department asks residents to join its donation team by giving blood at the Vitalant BOB Blood Drive on April 30. Donors who mention the department’s role when signing up will help support county health efforts.  Paso Robles Daily News
