CULTURE NEWS

  • Applause Children’s Theater will perform Annie Jr. in May with eighty young actors bringing the story to life as they celebrate their 10th anniversary. It will have shows on May 7, 8, and 9 at 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. (tickets are $35 general, $15 for children).  Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cal Poly students take on roles at Ride High Productions to run ESPN+ live sports broadcasts using industry standard equipment and gain hands on training; the program helps students across majors learn technical skills that lead to internships and full time broadcast jobs.  Mustang News
  • Chef Arthur Dulin of Cal Poly Campus Dining won first place at the NACUFS 2026 Pacific Culinary Challenge on March 24 at the University of Washington and will compete for a national title with a silver medal from the American Culinary Federation in New Orleans on July 15.  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nuclear Regulatory Commission renewed Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant’s licenses for 20 years (Unit 1 now expires on Nov. 2, 2044, Unit 2 on Aug. 26, 2045) after PG&E planned a 2025 shutdown, and Gov. Newsom praised the decision although state law requires operation only through 2030.  CalCoast News
  • The City of Paso Robles will host an open workshop to update the municipal airport master plan on Apr. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the airport terminal building (4900 Wing Way), inviting community members and aviation users to provide input.  Paso Robles Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Alzheimer’s Association will host Wise Women & Wine on April 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at J Dusi Winery in Paso Robles to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research and honor women, with food, wine, a silent auction, plus a research presentation by Dr. Ozama Ismail (featuring local winemakers).  Paso Robles Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pac-12 Wrestling conference will expand to nine teams next season after adding five schools, which includes Air Force, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Northern Illinois. Coach Jon Sioredas said the move will give wrestlers more chances to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.  Mustang News
  • Cal Poly Men’s Soccer will move to the Pac-12 Conference as an associate member in the fall, ending 25 years in the Big West Conference. Cal Poly, UC Riverside, UC San Diego & California Baptist will play six conference matches with the top four teams advancing to a new tournament.  Mustang News
