COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Monday Club in San Luis Obispo is collecting new and gently used books for children from babies through third grade to support local home libraries, with donations to be distributed via the SLO Food Bank + ECHO homeless shelters. The group has donated over 16,000 books since 2021.  KSBY-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Old Dominion will perform on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at the Paso Robles Event Center for the California Mid-State Fair, with Dasha and Annie Bosko opening the Michelob Ultra Concert Series. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 13 (10 a.m.).  Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Paso Robles High School Jazz Band earned awards at the Dos Pueblos Jazz Festival in Goleta, including second in the Senior High Novice Division and individual honors. They will perform at Cuesta College Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 14 (free to the public).  Paso Robles Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The County of San Luis Obispo will repair storm-damaged shoulders on Peachy Canyon Road, and drivers will face up to 15-minute delays on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from March 16 to April 3.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • The CHP Templeton Area office will enforce pedestrian safety in San Miguel and Templeton today, targeting drivers who fail to yield at crosswalks and issuing warnings or citations (plainclothes officers monitor the crosswalks). This grant-funded effort aims to enhance safe travel in the community.  Paso Robles Daily News
  • San Luis Obispo will double fines for noise violations and unruly gatherings in its safety zone from Mar. 13 through 16 and Mar. 17 through 18. Cal Poly will host an on-campus concert on Saturday, Mar. 14 at its Sports Complex Lower Fields to steer students away from street parties.  CalCoast News
  • A new radio site above Avila Beach improved emergency communications for first responders in South San Luis Obispo County when it became fully operational on Feb. 26. The Cave Landing (Ontario Ridge) site now boosts coverage in spots including Shell Beach, Squire Canyon and along the road to Diablo Canyon Power Plant.  Paso Robles Daily News

  • At Hawaii Sunday, Cal Poly's pitcher Carson Turnquist pitched effectively by relieving in the second inning and limiting hits to three over five innings—resulting in a 7 to 3 win. The Mustangs will host Fresno State Tuesday as local talent from our county contributes to the roster.  Paso Robles Daily News
