- ➤ The City of San Luis Obispo launched updated trail projects at Righetti Open Space & Laguna Lake Bike Park, and volunteers can help with Blackburn Trail improvements in Reservoir Canyon Open Space while the city plans a strategic trail update for hiking and biking. Mustang News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Festival organizers added eight new performers and unveiled the official artwork by Gabe Schneider — designed in an Art Nouveau style — for the 38th annual Live Oak Music Festival, to be held June 19 to June 21 at El Chorro Regional Park. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Dancers prepared on Feb. 21 at the Performing Arts Center SLO for Illuminate 2026, showcasing hip-hop and traditional routines that celebrated community unity + cultural diversity. Mustang News
- ➤ The Templeton Historical Museum Society will host 'Some Like it Hot' on March 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum, where local ranchers & home cooks can enjoy a chili competition, ranch branding, a vintage silent auction, and food from the Templeton Mercantile Club Car Bar. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students are adjusting to the reopened Kennedy library, which was revamped after a two-and-a-half-year closure. The library now features rearranged furniture and floor-specific quiet areas and expanded 24-hour study spaces (a change many find less crowded). Mustang News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State data show that although counts between July 2024 and July 2025 recorded modest gains from foreign immigration offsetting domestic losses in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara, both counties still have fewer residents now than at the 2020 census; earlier drops during COVID lockdowns also lowered numbers. - ➤ Cal Poly installed Flock Safety cameras on campus in March 2025 to record vehicle data for police investigations and created a public portal on Feb. 26 (for 30-day data storage) as students launched a petition claiming privacy risks. Mustang News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A mobile eye clinic provided free eye exams and glasses to over 100 residents at the Homeless Services Center on Prado Road through a two-day event hosted by VSP Vision’s Eyes of Hope program and local partners. The event aimed to improve access to vision care for those in need. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly Health and Wellbeing launches a Student Transport Service today to help on-campus students too ill or injured to reach the Health Center. The service runs hourly from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday with reserved pick-ups at designated stops (e.g., North Mountain Dorms 6). Mustang News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Cal Poly Rodeo’s women’s team leads the nation with 2,120.5 points from the fall season and will compete for the national title in spring (Poly Royal Rodeo in April) as they build on strong performance. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly’s St. Patrick’s Day music festival will use fields 4 and 5 at the Lower Sports Complex from March 8 to 16, raising concerns among club sports athletes about losing practice space. University organizers plan to protect the fields + provide alternative practice areas. Mustang News
