CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, Cal Poly hosted Illuminate, a dance show featuring fifteen groups performing jazz, hip hop, Chinese lion dance, and Mexican folk dance. The audience cheered lively freestyles (cypher) and creative routines that brought the community together on stage. Mustang News
- ➤ Downtown Centre Cinemas is updating its lobby and concessions to bring audiences back. Construction will finish in two to three months (restroom upgrades and further improvements will begin in August or September). KSBY-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Michael Susank was named principal of Paso Robles High School after serving as interim leader and athletic director, and the district said his appointment reflects strong support from staff and students — new athletic director applications will be accepted soon — as the Bearcats prepare for upcoming challenges. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fremont Theater is closed until its damaged sign is evaluated by an engineer (a winter storm caused part of the iconic sign to fall), and city officials said the sidewalk will remain closed while nearby businesses keep operating. KSBY-TV
- ➤ Atascadero officials announced an improved fire protection rating from Class 03/3X to Class 02/2X effective May 1— a move driven by enhanced emergency systems and fire department upgrades that may lower insurance costs. - ➤ Skar (a three-year-old mixed-breed dog) at Woods Humane Society received medical care after arriving injured at the county shelter and is now seeking his forever home. KSBY
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit Tuesday for Hill Street Apartments, a 38-unit residential project in Nipomo at 549 Hill Street that will feature two three-story buildings with amenities (outdoor barbecue, picnic tables, playground, walking paths and fire pit) on a 1.24-acre site. - ➤ Cal Poly clinched a spot in the Big West Tournament after beating Long Beach State 102-92 Thursday night at Mott Athletics Center (record 13-16) and will play UC San Diego on the road at 7 p.m. today to vie for a higher seed. Mustang News
