- ➤ Local events include the ongoing SLO Comedy Festival that began Thursday and Saturday surf competitions at Morro Rock, a garden workshop at Uptown Family Park, along with dance lessons, wine tastings and conservation events, plus a Sunday makers market (Feb. 26-March 1). KSBY

- ➤ Firestone Walker Brewery in Paso Robles announced the return of its Sunglider Golden Lager, a limited-batch seasonal beer brewed with California-grown barley and regional ingredients — part of its Brewing for Tomorrow sustainability initiative. The beer is available in six-packs at three brewery locations and select retailers. Paso Robles Daily News

- ➤ Trăm Phần Trăm (100% Vietnamese) performed a traditional fan dance at Cal Poly’s Illuminate stage, marking its third appearance at the annual student showcase. The performance featured the group’s first long ribbon fan dance that combined traditional movements with cultural storytelling. Mustang News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Cal Poly software engineering student shares her challenge as campus has less than 2% Black students and she feels out of place in classes. She builds confidence by joining the Black Student Union (BSU) and Black Academic Excellence Center to connect with peers and overcome imposter syndrome. Mustang News
- ➤ Cal Poly is launching its first-ever Field Quarter this spring, where 40 students will study nature in parks including Napa State Park (combining botany, herpetology, and ornithology) before the course may be retired with the switch to the semester system. Mustang News
- ➤ The district appointed Michael Susank as principal at Paso Robles High School after former principal Megan Fletcher was removed on Nov. 9 following failed breathalyzer tests (BACs .24% and .25%). Superintendent Jennifer Loftus praised Susank’s proven leadership as interim principal. CalCoast News

- ➤ Former county supervisor Kurt Kupper, one of the first environmentalists elected in 1972, passed away on Monday, Feb. 16 after a battle with cancer. His work led to improved safety at Diablo Canyon and preserved vital open space in our community. CalCoast News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ For the first time, avian flu was detected in marine mammals when tests on seven elephant seal pups came back positive at Año Nuevo State Park (in San Mateo County) on Thursday, Feb. 26; state wildlife officials reported that no cases have been found on the Central Coast. KSBY
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Cal Poly Beach Volleyball swept its four matches with a 4–0 record at the Third Coast College Classic in Houston last weekend. The team will compete today at the Battle for LA and face nationally ranked opponents. Mustang News
- ➤ Local racer Maddi Gordon earned her Top Fuel license during testing and will make her pro debut at the Gatornationals in Gainesville from March 6 to 8. The third-generation driver racing with Ron Capps Motorsports recorded speeds above 300 mph (a first milestone) as she prepares for a Rookie of the Year campaign. Paso Robles Daily News
- ➤ Cal Poly Mustangs set new records this weekend as a quartet ran a 9:25.05 in the men’s distance medley relay in Indiana, while Tatiana Cornejo broke a 39-year school record in the women’s one-mile run in Massachusetts (paving the way for NCAA Indoor Championships qualifiers on March 13-14). - ➤ Cal Poly Volleyball hired former head coach Sam Crosson as its new associate head coach on Feb. 23 - he is filling the vacancy after Jason Borchin left for Nevada. Emme Bullis also joined Borchin at Nevada after playing a key role in the Mustangs’ NCAA run. Mustang News
