- ➤ Long Valley in Atascadero earned national Firewise recognition after residents completed a wildfire risk assessment and three-year action plan. - ➤ Cal Poly’s Lion Dance team is rehearsing with live drumming as they prepare for Illuminate on campus; student pairs (tracing their roots to 1957) work closely (ensuring synchronized movement) to bring an ancient Chinese tradition to life. Mustang News
- ➤ Paso Robles Jazz Fest will debut April 24–26 in wine country with limited-seating shows at Libretto (featuring eight jazz musicians on Friday and Saturday) and a closing solo piano performance at Sensorio; VIP ticket holders can also attend an extra show on April 23 with Grammy-winning Sullivan Fortner. - ➤ Cal Poly Salsa is set to perform at Illuminate 2026 with a routine created entirely by students. The revived group resumed performances after an eight-year break and has practiced since early October to perfect timing and formations. Mustang News
- ➤ On Feb. 12, more than 20 Black Student Union members gathered at Cal Poly’s basketball game (the Mustangs defeated UC Irvine) to support Black athletes and honor Black History Month. BSU leaders emphasized the value of community and invited Black athletes to join future events. Mustang News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Former Paso Robles superintendent Curt Dubost, who helped launch Almond Acres Charter Academy, joined the board. The public school (a tuition-free K-8 institution) serves families in northern San Luis Obispo County. Paso Robles Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Caltrans reopened Highway 1 from Cambria to Carmel on Friday after a Monday storm caused rock and mudslides and crews cleared debris from the northbound lane, resulting in about 20 minute delays. The scenic drive is popular for its spring wildflowers. CalCoast News
- ➤ The City of Paso Robles announced street repairs in the Sierra Bonita neighborhood funded by Measure I-24, with Granite Construction set to begin work in March and complete repairs by fall as temporary no-parking signs are posted. Paso Robles Daily News
