COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A proposed weekday train service will connect Los Angeles, Ventura County, and the Central Coast via an early-morning roundtrip on the Pacific Surfliner, stopping at Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. If approved, the pilot program will begin in April.  KSBY
  • Organizers announced that Colony Days Parade and Annual Community Celebration will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17 in downtown Atascadero. The morning parade from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. will be followed by community events coordinated with Atascadero Fall Fest (this free event reflects a traditional timeframe).  Paso Robles Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A 30-foot historic railroad semaphore was installed at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum Tuesday after eight months of careful restoration (preserving a unique piece of local railroad history). Board member Michael Burrell said the display enriches the museum’s public efforts.  KSBY-TV
  • World Ballet Company will perform Swan Lake at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo on Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. Tickets range from $64 to $142 for a two-and-a-half-hour show (including a 20-minute intermission).  Paso Robles Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twenty-six Cal Poly students were honored Feb. 2 in Sacramento for achievements in academics, research and leadership at Cal Poly’s 12th legislative showcase. Senior architecture major Aubrey Goings was among the honorees after her team won the Rose Parade Sweepstakes Award.  KSBY-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • San Luis Obispo City Council will hold a study session on Tuesday, Feb. 10 to review Councilwoman Jan Marx’s proposal to repurpose Laguna Lake Golf Course for low-cost housing, a community center or habitat restoration. The course, which hosts community events and faces local opposition, has been an asset.  CalCoast News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Cal Poly’s Elijah Ponder from San Luis Obispo is preparing to play in Super Bowl LX against the Seahawks this Sunday in the Bay Area after a key AFC Championship fumble recovery helped the Patriots earn their spot. He expects to become the fifth Mustang to lift the Lombardi Trophy.  KSBY-TV
